1966 GMC Suburban “Custom” Build – Monthly Updates

Stay in touch and keep tabs on our 1966 GMC Suburban build.
I figure 13-14 months for completion. Purchased Jan of 2021. Really didn’t get going until August 2021.
I’m nearing the end of this build.


Features on this build
496 Blueprint motor (Dyno’d at 658 HP / 610 lbs torque) _ NEW block and NEW heads. Not a rebuilt motor
Super Streetfighter TCI
Gearworks 12 bolt – 3.73 gears
CVF Serpentine system
Snowden seats
Interior by ‘me’
Copperhead PPG Deltron paint ($1300+ gallon)
All black is a basecoat / clearcoat paint
All electric full sweep AutoMeter gauges
Lot’s of CPP C10 components inc big disc brake kit inc 5×5 rotors
New crossmembers
Conversion from factory leaf spring to trailing arms.
All parts painted off the truck
Power steering
backup lamps
Holley Sniper EFI
New wiring (American Autowire)
ALL body panels on used in the build were the originals that came with the truck
Original headliner (Very hard to find intact on these Suburbans
Vintage Air
2″ widened tubs
NEW marine grade wood in the rear (yes, these came with wood in the rear cargo area
Optional 4 slider windows in the 1/4 panels (factory on this Suburban). Some came with 2 sliders up front and 2 stationary in the rear
C-notched frame
“smoothed” bumpers
New mirrors, handles painted in a matte black bc/cc (mirror post bolts painted gloss black)
Retained the original Suburban lift supports along with the tailgate hinges
“smoothed” inner fenders (no holes, no battery tray indent)
Billet Specialties 2 piece wheels (20×10, 20×8.5)
Lokar 16″ shifter
Steele seals and 1/4 slider seals along with rear glass seal and clamshell tailgate / hatch weatherstripping
Stock Interiors carpet (I had to improvise as ACC will only allow ONE “extra” yard which made it a BIG challenge for the middle and rear cargo area.
ORIGINAL polished GMC Custom trim and emblems (rare and only can be found on the GMX Customs).
Original ‘Custom’ windshield stainless steel. Rear tail light housings polished
Chevy Suburban’s had different trim
Custom made driveshaft
