How To smooth out the grooves on the Vulcan saddle bag lids.
You can apply this pretty much to either metal or fiberglass.
Shown here are the grooves that will eventually be smoothed out
We took a grinder with a 24 grit grinding disk and went to town on it. We really roughed it up.
One thing you want to watch is be sure you don't go through the lid (or whatever you are smoothing out).
Here we've blown off the lid to show a better look at it. Notice that we grinded the edge off each gooved.
In other words, we "V" each groove a bit.
We coated the complete area with Dura-Glass.
We'll let this set, then we'll grind it flat as possible.
You could use a mud-hog of a big wheel with 40 grit if you wish
Our first coat of bondo. You'll want to sand this out and make it flat. You can start with a DA and 40 grit.
Then you'll need to block it with 80, then 180. You may need to recoat again with bondo.
Another look at the bondo
Here we have the area nice and flat. You can see we've applied some flowable putty to fill deep scratches, minor waves and any pinholes
Once you get to this point, you just need to prime, sand, and paint!
